Every Tuesday Quizefy publishes a blog. The idea behind our blog is to write about a trending topic and pair it with a matching quiz. Most of the answers to questions in the matching quiz can be found in the blog. It’s a great way to engage Quizefy players while, at the same time, providing them with an opportunity to learn about a new subject.
Today we ask: Why is the world so infatuated with Elon Musk?
The obvious answer (until prior to January 20th) is money. Musk is the richest man in the World, with a net worth trending in the area of $395 billion according to Forbes’ real time billionaires list.
But the new answer is the power he holds in the Trump administration. In a strictly “volunteer” capacity, Musk now heads up DOGE, the newly established Department of Government Efficiency.
“DOGE will pave the way for my Administration to dismantle Government Bureaucracy, slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures, and restructure Federal Agencies.” (Donald Trump)
Actually, the real answer is that Elon Musk is a different kind of person, like none other most of us have ever seen … unless you are familiar with autism (within which his Asperger’s Syndrome diagnosis is classified).
Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is “the persistent impairment in reciprocal social communication and social interaction, and restricted, repetitive patterns of behavior, interest or activities”. These symptoms and behaviors must be present from early childhood and negatively impact everyday functioning.
You can take a free, self-administered Asperger’s Syndrome test here.
Curious about Asperger’s? Watch these heart-wrenching movies:
Deficits in social interaction, inappropriate communication skills and interest restriction typify individuals with Asperger’s Syndrome. And they are present in Mr. Musk, as well as Greta Thunberg, who calls Asperger’s her “superpower”.
“I don’t really care about social codes.” (Greta Thunberg, Environmental Activist)
“Ha, ha, ha. I don’t actually want to be President. I want to build rockets and cars.” (Elon Musk)
“You focus on it entirely, continuously, to the point that you might forget to eat … it possesses you.” (Errol Musk, father of Elon Musk, talking about the interest restriction passion)
Musk knows he is different. Exposed to physical and emotional violence at home, he has also been a victim of almost deadly bullying. He readily admits that his mind sometimes goes into dark places, which is not uncommon among people with his condition. Money and power will never repair the damage of his past, nor solve his still poorly understood neurological disorder.
Perhaps that’s why Elon established Neuralink, whose “core mission is centered around developing advanced brain-computer interfaces (BCI) to revolutionize human communication and cognitive capabilities”. Neuralink’s current focus on restoring sight and mobility are only the tip of the iceberg of possibilities.
Taking BCI to the point where it easily solves common physical and mental health problems would be an impressive legacy, Mr. Musk -- much more important to humanity than any rocket, car or government policy. You say that you are devoted to solving problems for the future of humanity, perhaps ensuring the long-term survival of the human species by becoming multiplanetary can wait a bit.
