Kamala Harris has emerged. And, according to British pop sensation Charli XCX (whose real name is Charlotte Aitchison), Kamala is “brat”.
Note: “brat” NOT “a brat”. There’s a big difference between these 2 expressions.
What does it mean to be brat?
Brat is an attitude more than an aesthetic, described as unexpected, bold and fun, a relief from everything stodgy.
Brat green has become a symbol of a vibe that is bold, fresh and rebellious.
Brat green, the color featured on the cover of British pop star Charli XCX's album “Brat”, is between 360 and 375 on the Pantone color chart. This shade of green is a vivid, neon-imbued chartreuse that's similar to lime green and slime green (Photo illustration: Maura Losch/Axios)
As a refresher now that she’s stepped out of the shadows, who is Kamala Harris?
- She is the first female Vice-President of the United States and the highest ranking female official ever in U.S. history
- She is the first African American and South Asian American Vice-President of the United States
- She is a former U.S. Senator (2017 to 2021). Prior to that she was the Attorney General of California (2011-2017)
- She is 59 years old and has 1 sister, Maya
- Her Indian mother (Shyamala Gopalan) was a biologist and her Jamaican father (Donald Harris) is a Stanford University economist
- She attended primary school through to pre-university (CEGEP) in Montreal, while her mother took on medical research and teaching at McGill University (her parents divorced when she was 7)
- Prior to completing studies in law, she earned a degree in political science and economics
- She married for the first time when she was almost 50. Her husband, entertainment lawyer Doug Emhoff, is the first Second Gentleman in American federal history. He is also the first Jewish spouse of an American President or Vice-President
- Oh, and she also has great moves and wears Converse Chuck Taylors
Now the big question is: who will be her running mate? Kamala Harris did not just fall out of a coconut tree. It will be interesting to see who she pairs up with. One thing is 100% for sure, this ticket will not be comprised of 2 white men.
