Like it or not, Donald Trump and the Republican Party will be calling the shots for the next 4 years. Though ballot counting is still not complete, it is estimated that 2 out of 3 eligible voters cast a ballot. The American People have spoken.
“The ballot is stronger than the bullet.” (Abraham Lincoln, 16th President of the United States)
There is no doubt that the economy drove decision-making in this year’s Presidential Election. Promises of no taxes on tips, overtime and social security benefits, and possibly no income tax at all, were too good for the average American to resist.
“A leader is a dealer in hope.” (Napoleon Bonaparte, former Emperor of the French)
“Money talks, bullshit walks.” (Stephen King, American author)
No one cares that the U.S. economy is actually doing well right now, as most don’t really understand big words like Gross Domestic Product (GDP) that economists and policy makers throw around.
Americans see higher prices at the grocery store and gas pump, interest rates that make housing less affordable, rising healthcare and insurance costs, coupled with stagnant wages.
Most believe their lives have taken a turn for the worse since COVID. When living paycheck to paycheck, as the majority of Americans do, that’s your reality.
Having worked in market research my entire career, I can tell you that both government and large corporations are in the business of telling people what they want to hear. True or not, Donald Trump told people what they wanted to hear.
As Niccolo Machiavelli once said: “Politics have no relation to morals” (Florentine diplomat, author, philosopher and historian who famously wrote “The Prince” in the early 1500s).
Trump’s strategy worked. Lofty ideals did not.
Saddle up, it’s going to be a ride unlike any other seen before … in accordance with the wishes of the American People.
